Caraco jacket, bodice and skirt, 1780s
In the 18th century, this type of jacket was known as a caraco.
The fabric is expensive silk rep with a pattern woven into the fabric. The embroidery work is elaborate and made using precious silver thread and silk. According to the family from Lund that donated the costume, it has been worn at court.
Floral pattern silk rep embroidered with silk and silver thread. The dress consists of pre-embroidered parts, most likely imported from France. It has been altered at a later date.
