Evening dress, 1986

In the 1980’s, in the yuppie era, the defined shoulder with exaggerated shoulder pads returned. There was a definite focus on body shape, workouts and bodybuilding. Colours were often bright, like the hot pink here, or neon.

The dress was designed by the Japanese fashion designer Yuki. It was purchased in Copenhagen and worn to King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 40th birthday dinner in 1986.

A pleated, synthetic fabric evening dress with a bateau neckline, shoulder pads and long sleeves.
Japanese designer Yuki, Gnyuki Torimaru, started his own fashion label in London in 1972.
