Dress, 1895
Huge puff sleeves became very popular in 1895. The sleeve below the puff sleeve was narrow and long. This type of sleeve was known as a ‘leg of mutton’ sleeve due to its appearance.
The bustle, which had previously been used to emphasise the derriere, was replaced by a small cushion that created volume.
A two-piece, high-neck dress in striped silk taffeta. The bodice is trimmed with green silk ribbons, sequins and lace on black tulle. The striped cotton twill lining has metal boning sewn in. The dress was made by Celine Beaussolcil Confeccioner in Barcelona using fabric purchased in Switzerland.
