Dress, about 1810

The thin fabric revealed the shape of the body underneath. This was a conscious decision during this period. The breasts should be emphasised, and ideally they should point sideways. The undergarment was meant to keep the derriere firmly in place and disguise any curves below the bust.

This dress has short puff sleeves and is cut below the bust. It is made from white cotton voile with a striped pattern and flowers woven into the fabric.
