Evening dress, 1920s

It is difficult to date this dress exactly. It has the dropped waist typical of 1920s fashion. However, its fitted bodice and the width of the skirt are not typically associated with this era. This means that the dress was probably made in the late 1920s, when fashion started to favour the more fitted styles and longer skirts seen in the 1930s.

In the 1920s, short dresses were worn even at evening dress events when the men wore tails.
